Sameer Rizvi creates history for CSK as he enters the elite list after a blistering IPL debut.
The highly regarded right-handed batsman made his IPL debut last week against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the competition. However, Sameer Rizvi was unable to bat because CSK won that match by a margin of six wickets.
He had little chance of batting in the CSK’s opening match of the season, as Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube were dominating the Gujarat Titans. However, the CSK team management sent Sameer Rizvi out to bat after Rashid Khan bowled Dube for 51 in the 19th over.
Sameer Rizvi enters the elite list:
Despite his popularity, few expected Sameer Rizvi to score a lot of runs on the very first ball he faced, especially against one of the best spinners in the world, Rashid Khan. However, the 20-year-old struck the first ball of his IPL career for a six, demonstrating why he is so well-liked.
The Afghan star was slog-swept for a six over deep backward square leg by the right-handed batter, who went down on one knee. The teenage player from Uttar Pradesh struck Rashid for another six in the same over. In the end, he made 14 runs before being removed by Mohit Sharma in the last over of the innings.
In his first IPL innings, the CSK batsman just had to face six deliveries, but it was enough to put him on the elite list. He is currently only the ninth player in IPL history to knock a six on his very first career ball. In 2009, Rob Quiney became the first person to reach the milestone.
Aniket Choudhary was the first Indian to reach the amazing milestone; he did so in 2017, and Siddhesh Lad repeated the accomplishment in 2019. Sameer Rizvi became the youngest and first player from CSK to accomplish the accomplishment.
