After losing the first match, the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad aim to win their first IPL in 2024
The host Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, who lost their opening IPL 2024 matches from winning positions, hope to make up for it on Tuesday by winning their first game of the competition.
Mumbai started life under new captain Hardik Pandya on a bad note when they botched a routine 169-run chase against Gujarat Titans. Hyderabad was unable to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders, needing seven runs in five balls.
Mumbai, the five-time champions, are notoriously slow starters; their loss to Gujarat marks their 12th straight tournament opening-round setback.
However, under Pandya, who is already under pressure following his mega-bucks transfer deal from Gujarat to replace Rohit Sharma as skipper, they have failed to gel and play as a team.
Pat Cummins, the new captain of Hyderabad, will also be looking to Heinrich Klaasen’s big hitting to lead them out of a critical scenario. He would, meanwhile, require assistance from his fellow batters.
In addition to the seasoned veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar, openers Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, and pinch hitter Abdul Samad must live up to the expectations placed on them.
After batting at number seven to make room for Tim David, Ishan Kishan, and Brevis higher up the order, Mumbai would also require their players to assist pace leader Jasprit Bumrah with the ball and Sharma with the bat.
