A Three-Way Peace Agreement Between The Militant Group ULFA And Center, Assam, Will Be Signed.
Amit Shah, The Union Home Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, The Chief Minister Of Assam, And Other Prominent Figures From The Pro-Talks Faction Of The United Liberation Front Of Asom (ULFA), As Well As Representatives From The Central And Assamese Governments, Will Sign A Tripartite Peace Accord On Friday.
Assam’s Long-Standing Political, Economic, And Social Problems Will Be Addressed By The Agreement, Which Also Seeks To Put An End To The State’s Decades-Long Insurgency, According To News Agency PTI.
It Will Also Provide Cultural Safeguards And Land Rights For The Indigenous People, It Stated.
As A Result Of Their Repeated Rejection Of The Government’s Olive Branch, Paresh Baruah’s Hardline ULFA Faction Will Not Be Included In The Agreement.
Despite Fierce Opposition From The Hardline Faction Led By Baruah, Who Is Thought To Be Living Somewhere Along The China-Myanmar Border, The ULFA Faction, Led By Arabinda Rajkhowa, Had Started Unconditional Talks With The Central Government In 2011.
The ULFA Was Formed In 1979 With The Demand For A “Sovereign Assam”.
Its Involvement In Subversive Activities Since Then Has Resulted In The Central Government’s 1990 Declaration Of The Group As Prohibited.
