The Committee’s Recommendations Will Inform The Drafting Of New Versions Of The Bills.
Three British-Era Laws The Indian Penal Code, The Code Of Criminal Procedure, And The Indian Evidence Act—Were Replaced By The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023, And The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023—All Of Which Were Introduced In Parliament On August 11 During The Monsoon Session.
A Select Committee Of Parliament Was Then Tasked With Thoroughly Examining The Three Bills, And It Was Instructed To Provide A Report In Three Months.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah Stated During The Bills’ Introduction In The Lok Sabha That The Purpose Of These Laws Is To Provide Justice Rather Than Punishment.
