Farmers’ Ominous Warning to Government After Talks Failed: Delhi Chalo March to Resume Tomorrow
Just Hours After They Rejected The Center’s Proposal To Purchase Cotton, Maize, And Pulses At MSP, Farmers Leading The “Delhi Chalo” Agitation, Sarwan Singh Pandher, Issued A Warning To The BJP-Led Government, Saying It Will Be Held Responsible For “Whatever Happens Now.”
Following The Breakdown Of Negotiations With The Government, The Farmers In Protest Have Declared That On Wednesday, February 21, They Will Resume Their March Towards Delhi.
Pandher Stated Early On Tuesday That The Government Has Made It Apparent That It Will Not Permit Them To Enter Delhi.
“The Intention Of The Government Was Very Clear That They Would Not Let Us Enter Delhi At Any Cost…If You Don’t Want To Find A Solution Through Discussion With Farmers Then We Should Be Allowed To March Towards Delhi,” He Told Ani.
Referring To The Police Taking Unprecedented Measures To Stall The March, Pandher Said The Situation In Haryana Is Comparable To That Of Kashmir.
“We Were Shelled As We Approached Delhi…Additionally, Bullets Were Utilized On The Tractor Tires. According The Dgp Haryana, Farmers Are Not Subjected To Tear Gas. We Demand That Those Who Use It Then Be Punished. Additionally, False Comments Are Being Made…Haryana’s Circumstances Are Similar To Those In Kashmir. On February 21, We Will March Towards Delhi. The Government Has Offered Us A Plan That Would Force Us To Renounce Our Initial Demands. Whatever Occurs From Now On Will Be The Responsibility Of The Government,” He Continued.
During The Fourth Round Of Discussions With Farmer Leaders, A Group Of Three Union Ministers Suggested On Sunday That Government Organizations Purchase Crops Such As Maize, Cotton, And Pulses At Minimum Support Prices (MSP) For A Period Of Five Years.
Farmers In Protest On Monday Rejected The Government’s Proposal, Claiming It Aims To “Divert And Dilute” Their Demand For Minimum Support Payments.
The Farmers, They Said, Would Not Accept Anything Less Than The Recommendations Made In The Swaminathan Commission Report.
Farmers Are Requesting That A Law Proclaiming All Crops To Be At Minimum Support Prices Be Passed By The Government. MSP On All Crops, According To The Administration, Will Put A Strain On The National Coffers.
Earlier This Month, The Police Shot Teargas Shells In Bjp-Ruled Haryana At The Protesting Farmers.
Pandher Stated On Monday That The Farmers Wished To Travel Peacefully Towards Delhi And Did Not Intend To Breach The Barricades. The Authorities Ignored Their Requests For A Location At Jantar Mantar For Their Demonstration.
“Our Only Goal Is To Have Our Demands Realized, But We Will Have To Take Action If The Administration Won’t Listen To Us. Farmers And ‘Jawans’ (Police and Paramilitary) Are On Opposing Sides Of The Divide. Violence Is Not What We Desire. Pandher Has Stated That “People In The Country Will Consider Whether Such People Should Be In Power Or Not If The Government Engages In ‘Jabar’ (Oppression).
The Protesters Are Also Demanding Pension For Farmers, Debt Waiver, Reinstatement Of The 2013 Land Acquisition Act Among Other Demands.
