Baba Ramdev regrets to the Supreme Court the misleading ads case
In response to the Supreme Court’s directive in the case of deceptive advertisements, yoga guru Baba Ramdev expressed his sincere regret on Tuesday.
Days after the Supreme Court issued show cause summons, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, the managing director of Patanjali Ayurved, appeared before the court today to explain why contempt proceedings shouldn’t be brought against them.
Ramdev and Balkrishna were summoned before the Supreme Court on March 19, after the latter objected to the former’s refusal to reply to the case’s notice.
The Supreme Court had declared that Ramdev should be sent a show-cause notice because of the Patanjali advertisements, which contradicted the undertaking that the court received on November 21, 2023, appearing to be an endorsement of his.
The court had savaged the business for breaking its promise to refrain from publishing product advertisements that purported to be medical cures.
Ramdev’s attorney added, “Requesting the court to note my presence and my unconditional apology.”
The Supreme Court ordered Baba Ramdev to follow the commitment made to the court by his company. The court said, “You have broken every barrier.”
“This is total disobedience. Every court order nationwide, not only the Supreme Court’s, must be complied with, the court stated.
On November 21, 2023, Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. gave the Supreme Court an assurance that it would not break any laws, particularly those pertaining to the branding and advertising of the goods it produces and sells.
