Raghav Chadha Appeals His Suspension From The Rajya Sabha To The Supreme Court.
Raghav Chadha, A Member Of The Aam Aadmi Party, Appealed His Suspension From The Rajya Sabha To The Supreme Court On Tuesday. Chadha Was Expelled From The Upper House On August 11 For “Breach Of Privilege” After Four MPs Lodged Complaints Against Him In The Legislature.
Chadha Was Placed On Administrative Leave Until The Privileges Committee Report Was Submitted.
Prior To A Report From A Committee Of Privileges Being Submitted, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar Suspended Him In Response To The Complaints. The Complainants Charged The AAP MP Of Breaking The Rules By Submitting Their Names Without Their Permission For The Formation Of A Select Committee For The Privileges Committee To Review And Look Into The Problem. The Regulations Provide That A Member May Suggest His Or Her Name For A Select Committee Without Their Permission Or Signature.
The Names Of The Four MPs Were Included In Chadha’s Proposal To Form A Select Committee To Examine The Government Of The National Capital Territory Of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
Sanjay Singh, Another AAP Member, Was Also Placed On Administrative Leave Until The Committee Of Privileges Submitted Its Findings To The Rajya Sabha.
The Suspension Was Announced By Dhankhar. “. I Find It Expedient To Refer The Matter To The Committee Of Privileges. The Suspension Order Dated July 24 2023, May Continue Beyond The Current Session Till The Council Has The Benefit Of A Recommendation By The Committee Of Privileges.”
