Smriti Irani of the BJP trails Kishori Lal Sharma of the Congress in Amethi in the leads.

BJP candidate Smriti Irani, who is seeking reelection from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, appears to be trailing Congress candidate Kishori Lal, according to early metrics.
As of the time this story was written, Irani was behind by over 15,000 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Against Kishori Lal Sharma’s 43,076 votes, Smriti Irani, who had expressed confidence in holding onto the Amethi seat, has received 29,122 votes thus far.
In terms of the big picture, the NDA, led by the BJP, has passed the halfway point.
One of the most vulnerable seats among the 543 Lok Sabha seats is Amethi, where exit polls had forecast a tight contest between Gandhi supporter Kishori Lal Shama and Smriti Irani. Based on preliminary patterns, it seems that Kishori Lal has surpassed the BJP leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP veterans have made jabs at the Congress for fielding Kishori Lal Sharma, an Amethi native. They said that Rahul Gandhi scared the people of Wayanad, where the previous head of the Congress is also running for office, and fled from Amethi.
At the time of publishing this article, Rahul Gandhi was leading in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, and Wayanad, Kerala.
Early results indicate that in 41 seats, the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh has been surpassed by the opposition-led INDIA alliance. After lagging behind state Congress President Ajai Rai for a while, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has regained the lead.
