PV Sindhu stuns top seed Han Yue to enter Malaysia Masters semi-final

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the Malaysia Masters 2024 semifinals by putting on an incredible display against China’s top-seeded Han Yue. On Friday, May 24, Sindhu advanced to her first-ever BWF tour semifinals after winning the quarterfinal 21-13, 14-21, 21-12.
The winner of the other quarterfinal between Putri Kusuma Wardani of Singapore and Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand will now play Sindhu. Prior to the match, Sindhu had defeated Sim Yu Jin of the Republic of Korea 21-13, 12-21, 21-14 in 59 minutes, and she had successfully maintained her form against her Chinese opponent in the quarterfinals.
Ranked No.15 in the world, Sindhu is looking to win her maiden BWF title since winning the Singapore Open back in 2022. Having already skipped the Thailand Open and Uber Cup this year, Sindhu has had her fair share of ups and downs. Back in February, she made a return to the court after an injury layoff.
PV Sindhu to train in Germany
Winning the Malaysia Masters, assuming she can pull it off, will give her a huge confidence boost with the Paris Olympics just two months away. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) granted Sindhu’s request to practice in Germany before to the quadrennial tournament, which is set to begin on July 26.
For approximately a month, Sindhu will train at the Hermann-Neuberger Sportschule in Saarbrucken before departing for Paris.
Since Sindhu is the only Indian woman to win back-to-back medals in the championship’s history, expectations for her in Paris will be high. She had to settle for bronze in Tokyo three years prior, despite winning silver there in 2016.
